A parent recently asked: “Do you teach a polite way to interrupt?” Yes!
We teach, and we practice, and we practice, and we practice, and we remind!
Here is how it is. When you want someone’s attention, you go up, touch them and say their name. And wait. WAIT. When the person looks at you, you can talk/ask them something. Sometimes you have to WAIT. Waiting is hard. Sometimes we use one finger to indicate “Wait, please.” Sometimes we put our hand over their hand to show “I know you are there; thank you for waiting.” Sometimes we rub the waiter’s back a bit. Then we say: “thank you for waiting!”
